Jonathan Khoo kwam onder een celstraf van maximaal 10 jaar uit, hij kreeg een taakstraf van 300 uur.<\/h4>\n<p>Khoo ging niet op jacht naar nieuwe bitcoin (BTC), maar richtte zich op het minen van onder andere Ethereum en Monero. Het snode plannetje bracht echter weinig geld in het laatje. Hij verdiende nog geen 10.000 Australische dollars (omgerekend ruim 6.000 euro), terwijl het de overheid veel meer geld kostte.<\/p>\n<p>De 34-jarige Australi\u00ebr had toegang tot supercomputers van de \u2018Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization\u2019, een Australische overheidsorganisatie die zich richt op wetenschappelijk onderzoek.<\/p>\n<p>De supercomputer werd normaal gesproken gebruikt voor belangrijk onderzoek voor het land. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan medisch onderzoek en het analyseren van het klimaat.
